View notifications in Notification Center
As of iOS 8 your app can add a section to the Notification Center that users see when they swipe down from the top of the screen. This view is called a Today extension or just a widget. Today we’ll create a simple app with a today widget. It’ll just tell you the last time you ran the main app. How do I add an app to this list to get notifications from it? For example, I want notifications from the email app. It is not on the list, how do I add it? It almost seems like this list is randomly populated. I have 3 different machines running Windows 10 and all of them have different apps on the list. Like its iOS counterpart, Notification Center for Mac comes bundled with several stock Today widgets to get you started. However, it’s possible to add third-party widgets to Notification Center’s Today View by means of the Mac App Store and via direct download.
To open Notification Center, click in the upper-right corner of your screen, or swipe left with two fingers from the right edge of your trackpad.
- To view notifications that you missed, such as calendar alerts or FaceTime calls, click Notifications at the top of Notification Center.
- To open a notification in the app that sent it, click the notification. The notification is then removed from Notification Center.
- To remove notifications without opening them, click the the clear button next to a notification or group of notifications.
- To reveal controls for Do Not Disturb and Night Shift, scroll up (or swipe down) in Notification Center.
- To open Notifications preferences, click the gear button in the lower-right corner of Notification Center.
Customize alerts or turn them off
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Notifications.
- Select an app in the left column.
